Controllers Programmable Automation Controllers The concept of a Programmable Automation Controller or PAC was first introduced by CTC in the early 1980’s together with the Quickstep™ state based language as an improvement over the traditional PLC based automation solutions that had been in use since the 1960’s. PACs retain the rugged deterministic operating characteristics of the PLC, but incorporate this functionality into a new architecture that allows the PAC to handle additional machine automation functions — such network communication, data logging, and advanced motion control — in a single package. CTC’s hardware architecture and programming interface adeptly integrate the best features of a PLC, PC and Motion Controller.
